Training Exercises to Reinforce at Home

Next Level Kennels is North Carolina’s premier dog training facility. We work with the dog and the owner to build confidence and good behavior in everyday environments. But when your dog leaves the facility, be it from Puppy University to the 3 week board and Train- the lessons and training elements learned with us must be reinforced at home or else dogs can forget! Here are three training exercises to reinforce at home after training:

1. Keeping up with Door manners

Continue to encourage good behaviors when leaving home. Door manners are one of the easiest to lose because leaving the house and welcoming visitors are instances that are generally very exciting for a dog. Remember to appropriately reinforce commands like “place” and “free” as well the others you learned at Next Level Kennels to maintain good behavior around the door.

2. Kennel Time

Dog owners often hold a negative connotation with kennels or only associate them with the early stages of a dog’s development. A kennel is a completely normal pet accessory well into some dogs’ adulthood. In some situations, it is perfectly acceptable to maintain use of the kennel even as your dog ages.

Consistency and encouraging a positive relationship between the dog and the kennel are what makes maintained use of a kennel worthwhile for you and your pet

3. Use of a Remote Collar

Much like the kennel, owners often abandon the remote collar too early. The behaviors established during training and the commands that they’ve learned need to be reinforced. During training each owner is taught how to use the remote collars appropriately. This means that the owner has to maintain good practices alongside their animal.
